Happy Anniversary!

37 Years ago on July 1, at 2:00 P.M. I walked down the isle to marry the man of my dreams. I wasn't a typical 70's girl wanting to live the single life, somewhere far from home, in a big city. Nope. From the time I remember, when anyone asked me what I wanted to do when I got out of High School, I told them I wanted to get married and have a family. #1 Problem however, was that I didn't date a great deal in High School, and didn't have a steady boyfriend - UNTIL I met this incredible guy on December 31, 1971. Our eyes met across the room and from that minute on we were a couple. I had just had my 17th birthday, was a Sr. in High School, and was smitten - BIG TIME. We saw each other every spare minute of every day that we could, and on Valentines Day, he asked me to marry him. Now to hear him tell it, I asked him, but that's a whole OTHER post! We were married exactly 6 months to the day from the day we met, and have been together since. Has it all been roses? Ha! Has it all been thorns? Hmmm..... But it HAS all been worth it. 3 children, 6.50 grandchildren later, we've been through it all together. We have both lost out Dad's, and our children grew up without their Grandfathers. That's why it's SO important to both of us that we spend as much time with our kids and grandkids as we possibly can. Ok, enough of the history. Just wanted to let you know that I thank God every day for all he's given me, and all that I've got to come. I am so blessed. Love you Nannapie!

Three or More Tuesday

My post for this week is my dress forms/dress displays in my house. I'll introduce Maude, she was given to me by my Mom. I had asked Mom to look for an old dress form several years ago and she got me one of the ones below at an antique store for a little bit of change. When she later got to thinking about it, she remembered that she had this one and was willing to give it to me, just to get rid of it. I brought it upstairs, put on one of my many vintage aprons, one of my many vintage scarves, and set her in the sunroom/dining area. I've had so many comments on it, some think it's crazy, some think it's cool. Read on....Below you will see two baby nighties. The one of the left was my Dad's who was born in the 30's and the one of the right was mine. They were both made by hand, buttons holes and all.
Last, but not least, is my Sr. Prom dress, circa 1972 when long dresses were so NOT IN STYLE! Hanging from the side is my date's matching neck tie (later to become DH!). Below is a dress I wore when I was a little girl. By the way all you ORGANZA LOVERS, it's the big O!

As you see, I must be a trendsetter because I posted Maude in May, and this photo recently came out in Country Living Magazine.

Mosaic Monday

This is Emma's Baptism the weekend before Mother's Day. As you can see she had a great day. The middle photo is of the "Faye's". Emma's middle name is Faye, on the left is her Aunt - Angela Faye, holding her is great grandma- Barbara Faye, and on the right is ME - Sandra Faye.
Emma's dress is made from Aunt Angie's Confirmation dress, by MY Mom. Her bonnet is one that her Mommy wore. It is made from a hankie and was carried by her Mommy in her wedding as her "something old". The yellow lace on her underslip was made by MY Grandma - Oneta Faye who has been gone for 5 years now. I always wanted my girls to have a beautiful baptism gown and so now we have started the tradition. Isn't she beautiful?

Thanks to everyone for stopping by, please leave a comment, and join everyone else for their creative mosaic's at http://dearlittleredhouse.blogspot.com//

Flaunt Your Red!!!

I don' t have much red at my house, but this darling little girl has a red dress. I don't know what kind of doll she is OR where I got her (had her forever), so can't tell you anything about her. I believe however that this is the dress she came in, it seems to just "go with her". Join in the Flaunt Your Red fun at http://southernlady-nancy.blogspot.com/ and post about the red you enjoy!
Look at the little details on the dress. Someone paid attention to what matters

Thrifty Thursday

This is the bed the DD#2 had when she was growing up. When DD#2 was very young, I told my MIL that I wanted to find an old iron bed for her when we moved into our new house, for her new room. MIL said she thought if I looked out in the shed that there might be one, but didn't know if it would all be there or not. As luck would have it DH and I went searching and under (honestly, I'm not kidding) 4" of chicken poop, we found this bed. All 4 pieces were there, but the one side was bent and wouldn't stay together. So, DH took it to a friend's house, welded one side rail solid at the head and foot board and it went together well. UNTIL we tried to get in her room. It has to be turned upside down, and backwards to get in the door, then flipped over and turned the other way to get the other end in. Consequently, we don't move it out of there without good reason.
This bed was Eldon's Dad's bed when he was a child. One of the metal uprights on the end has a bend in it. Mike was the youngest of 6 children - 5 girls and him. The story was that his sister grew tired of his antics and tied him to the bed one time. As he struggled to get lose, it caused a bend in the metal post. Isn't that classic????
This is definitely a Thrifty Thursday post, because it was free for the taking as long as we wanted to clean it up. After a trip to the car wash and several coats of heavy white paint, it's lasted (since 1982) and still is used when DD#2 and SIL come home to stay. As a matter of fact we are looking forward to Independence Day with them being home!!! Go see more Thrifty Thursday posts at http://labratina.blogspot.com/. Thanks Leigh for your graciousness again this week!

What's on your wall? Wednesday

I guess I've missed out for awhile, cause this isn't a weekly post any more. Oh well, here it is anyway!

I've got wallpaper - all over. I've begun to remove it - one room at a time. So hopefully someday I'll be done...... I think I need a support group like Wallpaperer's Anon or something. Go to see what everyone else has on their wall too at http://gritsglamour.blogspot.com/.

Foodie Friday

Kansas Dirt Cake
I made this one for baby Emma's baptism for fun for the kids. There are many different ways to make it, I saw on BNOTP, Susan used cheese cake type recipe.

This is what I do.

Bake 9x13 chocolate cake any kind, your favorite recipe or brand.
Tear the cake up and place 1/3 in the bottom of a clean flower pot.
Make chocolate pudding (cooked kind works better) and pour over the cake.
Using 1/2 container of whipped topping, spread over top of pudding.
Layer chopped peanuts, and on top of that, gummy worms.

Continue to layer until the cake is used up. End up with the peanuts, worms, then a layer of crushed oreo cookies. Using a childs set of gardening tools, place them in the flower pot or on a tray holding the flower pot. If you like, insert the stem of an artificial flower for fun. Refrigerate as needed, serve with the gardening tools if you like. Have fun with Foodie Friday, and join everyone else at http://designsbygollum.blogspot.com/.

As if you never get enough flower photos, I have to share mine too. I didn't know if you wanted ALOT of pink like the one above, or a little pink like the one below, so I showed you BOTH! As we drove around the cabin area at the lake last Friday night (on the golf cart) I was amazed at how many flowers were blooming. On Saturday I went around with my camera and took photos. I'm posting ONLY the pink ones for you today!

Thrifty Thursday

Remember this that I found a few weeks back at Goodwill? I really loved the way it was, but also thought it would be neat in white.

I found this for a dollar at Freda's Flea Market, so now I don't have to paint the other one! They are totally different, but similar in size (15" tall), and this one works FINE for what I wanted it for!

Come on over to http://lbratina.blogspot.com/ to join in more Thrifty Fun!

Pink Saturday

Pink Saturday is one of my favorites. I do however, get a lot of flack from my son and son-in-law about it. So, to pay them back here's my pinks----their DAUGHTERS!!!Ha! Make fun of THAT guys! The two favorite "pinks" in my world are my granddaughters. They each had some special days just recently and they were enjoying their pink in their own way.

Greta got her first doll! You can tell she's lookin' her over good!

And a few days later, Emma found her toes for the first time! She LOVES them!

See more pink Saturday blogs at http://howsweetthesound.blogspot.com/ and tell Bevery I sent you! Thanks for stopping by! Sandi

Foodie Friday

For the last few years, I've had a flower bed in the yard that I planted with Wave petunia's. 2 Years ago they didn't do well, and the flower bed ended up being weeded quite often, and very few, if any, flowers ever bloomed. Since the nature of my job is for me to be gone sometimes weeks at a time, only home on weekends, my DH decided the flower bed HAD to go and he wanted to plant it with something we could ENJOY!
When I used it as a flower bed it was just the bottom 3 railroad ties. When DH decided to use it, he added the next 2 levels.
DH bought strawberry plants last year and babied them all summer long. This is what they looked like after a cold and snowy winter.
We haven't had strawberry plants for 20 years, so hoped and prayed that they would winter well. It seems they did.
This is what they looked like early in March and April.
And this is what they look like now. They are healthy plants and have a lot setting on.
The fruit isn't very big, but there's sure a lot of it.
Wait a minute! What's this? There's suddenly little fingers in my camera lens! Hmmm, I can't imagine who it could be!!!!! Someone very quiet who was behind me, I bet.......
I see who that is! It's Brady and he's been having a little snack! If you click on the photo you can tell by the pink around his mouth!!!! He obviously knows how good they are!
A little bowl of homemake ice cream, a little sugar on the berries and oh baby! What a treat!
I hope you all enjoyed seeing our first strawberry crop as much as I had bringing it to you!
Hope you enjoy your Food Friday! Join the other Foodies at http://designsbygollum.blogspot.com/ and have a wonderful weekend!
