Metamorphosis Monday

Metamorphosis Monday already?!? I can’t believe the week has gone so fast. So here’s the story before the post. We have a cabin at a lake in Nebraska that we use in the summer only. We have gone there for over 20 years, so you will definitely see it in the future blogs. There is a town nearby however that has a “junk day” on the 3rd Saturday in April every year. It’s the one time of year you can set ANYTHING on the curb and the trash truck will pick it up. It’s a great time to clean out items that aren’t allowed the rest of the year, like refrigerators that haven’t had the Freon taken out, or paint, lumber, large appliances, etc. It’s also a perfect time for us “Junker’s” to find all kinds of treasures!.

Last weekend was the one, and DH and I set out to make the rounds. I don’t know who made it to the truck first, but I think it was me! We drove around for probably two hours and found all kinds of things to bring back with us. Since it was our first weekend at the cabin this spring, we left the treasures out on our deck over night and woke up to rain in the middle of the night... Oh well, we DID get them out of the trash!!

As you can see, there is a chair, a fall basket, a picture of some deer, a set of brass log holders out of a fireplace, a piece of curved iron, a footstool and a table.

So Met Monday is the chair. DD#2 old bedroom needs a chair, so this one
was perfect. DH took it home, washed it down with 409 and water, sanded, and painted it white. When in Kansas City this past weekend for Greta’s birthday we made a detour to Joanne’s Fabrics and I purchased this print to cover the seat.

A little padding, a few staples and look at all the details this FREE chair has!!

WoW what a transformation !!!!!! This will make a great addition to the room and be just what was needed for people to sit in to dress when they visit. The “rest of the story” on the room is for another Met Monday post. Go to Susan’s Met Monday page and check out a lot of other great metamorphoses at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ .

  2. How neat to have a day set aside to pick up T2T items from the curb. In our little snob town, if anyone caught you picking up anything like that from the curb, they would call the cops on you. Such a shame. I did see a small table on the crub one day last year and went up and asked they lady if she minded if I took it, she looked at me like I had 2 head and say No, she didn't like people going through her trash.
needless to say I'm sure the garbage man took it home with him cause he loves to find "as he says, Good junk"...lol..
That chair turned out beautiful. The look of the crisp white and the stripped material made it like brand new.
