Vintage Thingie Thursday - I gotcha this time!

Ok, this week we are having a guessing game.

Do you know what it is? I have several different shapes and colors.

My DH found them laying along the road.

Once upon a time they were very important in our communications.

They sure are pretty when the sun hit them, while they are in my bay window.

I wish I knew more about them. But all I can tell you is the below photo is the best hint I have!
Thanks for joining me as I participate in Vintage Thingie Thursday. Hope you had fun!
http://www.coloradolady.blogspot.com/ is where it's at again this week, see you there!

  1. They are either power or telephone insulators. They have been used for years and some of them much older and shaped differently than these. I have some telephone ones.

  2. Insulators! I have a few of these--none are as clean and shiny as yours at the moment though! You have some interesting styles as well.

  3. I remember lying in the back seat of my parents' 1954 Chevrolet driving to my granparents' home and looking at all the telephone polls as we drove by them. They had those funny little what I thought upside down juice glasses on them. My grandmother had some short glasses that were similar in color.. the blue ones. I still think about that whenever I see those things.
    Thanks for the memory!

  4. Electric insulators! My dad found one when he had his basement dug out. And I have one wedged in my old tree in the backyard.

    Pyrex made some too.

    Thanks for sharing :)

  5. I put mine through the dishwasher - that's why they are sparkling clean! And DH came in with a stone one, made of the same thing as crocks after I put this on last night. So now I have quite a collection. Thanks for all of your comments!

  8. These were quite common in my childhood. DH has a couple blue ones I think, and we have a dark brown crock one that was a perfect door stop until Lucy as a pup literally chewed a piece out of the edge that wasn't glazed. It's still intact but I put it away for her safety.

  10. These are so great...and the blue colors are amazing. I have a few insulators, but I don't know if they were for electricity or the phone lines.....have a great VTT!

  11. I remember the posts and lines like that but I didn't know that those insulators were the caps on top. Apparently they are very collectible.

  12. Where have I been?! I've never heard of/or seen, those before! So much fun, thanks for introducing me.

    Happy VTT,

  13. A couple of weeks ago I saw a whole box of them at Goodwill, but I have no room for anymore collections! Enjoy yours!

  14. Awesome finds, I bet they do look amazing in the sunlight!

  15. What a lucky find! I've had my Mom's few insulators tucked away in a box for years. I think I should put them through the dishwasher just like you did & maybe they'd look just as nice. Good job of your DH to grab those...I hear they are highly collectable! Lets face it, they're not making them anymore!

  16. I knew what they were immediately! My mother used to collect antique bottles and insulators so I know I have some that she gave me packed away somewhere. They are pretty in the sunlight and I should find them and get them out!
