White Wednesday

The storage is white cabinets, and below is one of the ones for fabric. LOVE the way it looks, think I can keep it that way? Hmmmmm...... guess we'll see!

Met Monday - redoing old space!

Overwhelmed. That's the most appropriate word for what I was when it came to getting into projects in my computer/sewing/junk room.

I admit that I'm really digging in and telling (and showing) you my "dirty laundry".

The photos of BEFORE are bad. I admit that, but I took them when it was at it's worst, cause I wanted an honest record of what it looked like.

I know I needed to get rid of some thing, but just didn't know how to go about it. So, I called my friend Nancy, who's a professional organizer and got her involved! She came over, drew up some plans, and the work began.

First, all the furniture had to be removed, and one piece took the trusty old saw.....

It had to be removed in pieces, because it was so big. This room was filled with a lot of Sauder furniture which functioned well for a long time.

Then, I removed the wallpaper border, and painted. Soon, Nancy was back, and the work began.

Installation was a long process. It seemed at times that the "gods" were against us!

And my living room was the place where everything rested for 3 weeks! Yikes!

Well, this last week, Nancy spent 3 evenings helping me go through every drawer, every box, every little hiding place I had, until it was all sorted and put away.

Now the room is finished except for a few things like under counter lighting and hanging some photos.

I ended up with a bill paying station, 2 computer stations, and a sewing station. WoW!

I am totally in love with this room, and know now it's been worth all the time and trouble. I can't wait to get it dirty = doing a project, of course!

Tabletop Tuesday with a little BLING!

I decided for summer, I wanted to lighten up my mantel, as well as leave it with a little bling! I have beautiful sunlight in the room from daybreak to sunset, and I knew the glass would be great in there.

I've collected mantel scarves for a long time, in hopes that I would some day have a fireplace. Now that I have one, I'm enjoying playing with it.

The below candle holders were purchased at Dollar General and garage sales. The candles are left overs from DD#1's wedding 14 years ago.

I have many serving pieces and used the large round tray and small serving dish.

Then I saw the below setting when on vacation, and knew I was on the right track....

Pink Saturday - Emma on Vacation

Emma and gorgeous DD#2 on the boat, on vacation. Look at all that pink!

She had just got out of the water and was all snuggie sitting next to me.

The joke this year is that Emma falls asleep every time she's on a boat, and so I join with her family in making sure there is a photo EVERY time! Some day she's going to love us!

Vintage Thingie/Thrifty Thursday

If you were here earlier in the week, checking out my White Wenesday post, you saw my lamp, but did you also see what was beside it? It is a lightening rod, used earlier in this century, on top of primarily two story homes, so that instead of lightening striking the house, it would hit the rod, then follow the wire down to the ground where it would "ground" itself. It kept the home from catching on fire (hopefully). The one below is 3' tall. The reason I have them in my house, is because they have white glass "pretties" on them.

The one below is 5' tall. There are many different ones, but these days they are getting hard to find, in tact. The color, size, and shape of the "pretty" in the middle depends on who made it, and where. When we found these, the guy told my husband if he would crawl up and take them off, he could have them.

Tabletop Tuesday and White Wednesday

I got this lamp at a garage sale on Memorial Weekend. The lady was asking $25 for it.

I offered her $10. She said, "oh honey, it's practically new, would you give me $15? I said yes!

She said she paid over $100 for it about a year ago, and it had set in her guest room, not being used. She put the cutesy little bows on it, and the shades are obviously very well made.

But, I have other plans for this lamp. Striped down, she looks MUCH better in my eyes. And after a couple of cans of paint ...........

She is now my "dream lamp"! And fits in with my other lamps in that room as you can see below!
