Tablescape Thursday

Welcome to a beautiful Spring Tablescape Thursday! Rather than stage anything myself this week, I chose to tell you a little bit about me. I have a photography studio in our small town, and do weddings, seniors, babies and families on weekends and evenings (in my spare time). This week I'm showing you some of the things I take photos of at the weddings, and that's the flowers, tablescapes, cakes, and altars. I know the brides go to a lot of trouble making everything "just right", and most of the time do not remember anything when the day is all over! They are too busy to remember the details, so I try to take photos of those so they can always remember. I love the fact that you can tell a lot about a person in the type of decorations they use on this very important day of their life. It's really a window into their "soul" so to speak. I went to the studio last week and spent a little time digging out a few photos to show you. These are just but a smidgeon of the photos, but give you an idea. Enjoy!
This brides father is a farmer and she chose red roses, wheat from their field and placed it in mason jars from her Grandmother's cellar. It's obvious that family is very important to her.

See the detail of rope and cactus on the cake. Someone went to a lot of trouble!

Thanks to Susan for hosting Tablescape Thursday again this week. What an ambitious bunch of people we are!!! Check out the others at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ .

What's On Your Wall Wednesday

In our basement family room we have our colletion of shot glasses from wherever we have vacationed. We have 3 shelves like this that are full, one that hasn't made it on the wall yet, and enough to fill another after that. They bring back a lot of memories of past trips and fun.

I have never had too much trouble finding "shot" glasses for souveniers, except Disney World, where the lady was very troubled that I would think Disney shops would encourage drinking alcohol. I was a bit taken aback by the comment, but then just had to laugh. I collect them because they are very easy to transport and small and reasonable in price, NOT because I need to use them for alcohol.

Thanks to Barb for hosting another beautiful Spring WOYWW! Go look for more wall candy at http://gritsglamour.blogspot.com/

Three or More Tuesday

I’m showing you today one of my many and I do mean MANY collections. I am not so crazy over it these days, but have many things that are Princess Di Collectables. I got these plates through the Bradford Exchange and there are 12 of them in the set. I got one a month for a year, and they are numbered, limited edition. I keep them in the basement on the VERY top of the entertainment wall, so hopefully the grandson’s won’t ever break one. I have a lot of other items that are Princess Di things also, but this week is the plates. Enjoy, and thanks to http://gypsycorner.blogspot.com/ for hosting us today for Two or More!

Metamorphosis Monday

Metamorphosis Monday already?!? I can’t believe the week has gone so fast. So here’s the story before the post. We have a cabin at a lake in Nebraska that we use in the summer only. We have gone there for over 20 years, so you will definitely see it in the future blogs. There is a town nearby however that has a “junk day” on the 3rd Saturday in April every year. It’s the one time of year you can set ANYTHING on the curb and the trash truck will pick it up. It’s a great time to clean out items that aren’t allowed the rest of the year, like refrigerators that haven’t had the Freon taken out, or paint, lumber, large appliances, etc. It’s also a perfect time for us “Junker’s” to find all kinds of treasures!.

Last weekend was the one, and DH and I set out to make the rounds. I don’t know who made it to the truck first, but I think it was me! We drove around for probably two hours and found all kinds of things to bring back with us. Since it was our first weekend at the cabin this spring, we left the treasures out on our deck over night and woke up to rain in the middle of the night... Oh well, we DID get them out of the trash!!

As you can see, there is a chair, a fall basket, a picture of some deer, a set of brass log holders out of a fireplace, a piece of curved iron, a footstool and a table.

So Met Monday is the chair. DD#2 old bedroom needs a chair, so this one
was perfect. DH took it home, washed it down with 409 and water, sanded, and painted it white. When in Kansas City this past weekend for Greta’s birthday we made a detour to Joanne’s Fabrics and I purchased this print to cover the seat.

A little padding, a few staples and look at all the details this FREE chair has!!

WoW what a transformation !!!!!! This will make a great addition to the room and be just what was needed for people to sit in to dress when they visit. The “rest of the story” on the room is for another Met Monday post. Go to Susan’s Met Monday page and check out a lot of other great metamorphoses at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ .

Pink Saturday

Our kids all live in the Kansas City, Kansas area, so of course all the parties of any kind are there. That’s fine with us, since there’s much more to do there. Our daughter-in-law’s baby shower was held at Girlfriends! Lets do lunch! in the town of Independence, Missouri, and it was a fun time. The building is in an old part of town, surrounded by old buildings and antique shops (yeah!). The girls had fun playing dress up in the play room.

Personalities tended to be shown in many different ways….

I tend to have more than one though….

Maybe more than two…..

The many beautiful gifts were opened. You can see the great decorations on the walls behind Carla, anything and everything pink and girly. Old prom dresses, photos, shoes, whatever you could possible think of. They also had a Karaoke machine and everyone was encouraged to get up and perform!

Mom’s quilt was one of the hits of the party; The blocks were made by my Grandma Alley, and pieced and quilted by my Mom. It’s a prayer quilt, having had many prayers said over it during the process, and each of us at the shower signed our name and said a prayer, so Mom could quilt the signature in the blanket----- after she quit celebrating that is!

I make an afghan for each of my grandchildren, and DIL chose a variegated yarn in pink, blue, white, and lavender baby yarn.

At the end, we had a lunch of taco salad and cheese cake, with tea or coffee. We had a great time, and someday we will tell Greta how her Mom, Aunts, Grandma’s and Great Grandma all had a wonderful time in anticipation of her coming in to the world.
Thanks again to http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/ for hosting a perfect Pink Saturday!!!
Get your hat out of storage and join us for a great Pink Saturday!!!
